Hill & Hill Recruitment are working with a leading specialist contractor operating across the fire safety, remediation and building safety sectors.

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming projects, our client is looking to appoint a Senior Estimator / Head of Estimating to lead their pre-construction estimating function.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimating professional looking to take ownership of the estimating department, drive tender strategy and play a key role in the continued growth of a highly respected specialist contractor.

The successful candidate will oversee the pricing and submission of a diverse range of projects including fire remediation works, passive fire protection, fire door installations and replacements, compartmentation, life safety systems and wider building safety upgrades.

The Role

  • Lead the estimating function, managing the tender process from enquiry through to submission.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and commercially competitive tender submissions.
  • Review drawings, specifications, surveys and tender documentation.
  • Carry out detailed take-offs and pricing exercises.
  • Obtain, negotiate and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Develop tender strategies that maximise profitability while remaining competitive.
  • Identify project risks, opportunities and value engineering solutions.
  • Work closely with clients, consultants, design teams and senior management throughout the pre-construction process.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior estimators as the team continues to grow.
  • Support commercial and operational teams during project handover to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Contribute to business development activities, framework submissions and strategic bids.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Estimator, Lead Estimator or Head of Estimating within fire remediation, passive fire protection, fire doors, life safety systems or a related construction sector.
  • Strong commercial awareness with a proven track record of winning profitable work.
  • Excellent knowledge of building safety legislation, fire compliance and remediation projects.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and survey reports.
  • Experience leading complex tenders and managing multiple bid opportunities simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and develop estimating teams.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organised with exceptional analytical and numerical abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and estimating software.
