About the Role
We are recruiting a Head of SHEQ to join a growing main contractor based in London, with site visits across the city. This senior leadership role is ideal for an experienced SHEQ professional with a strong background in construction.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental & Quality Management
- Maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 accreditations across the business.
- Ensure all Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs) and waste documentation are compliant and up to date.
- Conduct site audits and manage visits to waste suppliers; lead environmental and quality audits on live projects.
- Oversee environmental and quality documentation across new and existing sites.
Training & Competence
- Maintain accurate training records and ensure site management compliance.
- Liaise with subcontractors to support external training plans.
- Identify and manage internal training requirements for all staff.
Health, Safety & SHEQ Leadership
- Chair Safety & Environmental Committee meetings; track actions and minutes.
- Lead development and auditing of SHEQ management systems and documentation.
- Provide strategic SHEQ advice to senior leadership and embed SHEQ into company operations.
- Set, monitor and report on company-wide SHEQ objectives aligned with legislation and CSR.
- Ensure implementation of risk assessments, method statements, and SHEQ plans across all sites.
- Lead investigations into incidents and ensure remedial actions are implemented.
- Manage Health & Safety team performance, ensuring all audits are completed and closed out.
- Maintain accreditations: CHAS, Constructionline, Safe Contractor, British Safety Council, ISO 9001/14001/45001.
- Support bid and tender submissions with relevant H&S input.
- Compile and present monthly SHEQ performance reports for Board review.
Required Skills & Experience
- Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH).
- Degree or NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management (or equivalent).
- Expert knowledge of H&S legislation and construction compliance.
- Proven experience in SHEQ leadership within a main contracting environment.
- Confident managing multi-site SHEQ operations with strong leadership and communication skills.
Location
Based in Mill Hill, Greater London with travel to projects across the London area.
