Role overview:
The successful candidate will be part of the Commercial Litigation - Manchester team, and report to Sharon Williamson, Partner. The team acts for corporate clients in relation to complex litigation both in the UK and internationally, helping them tackle disputes effectively. The successful candidate will place a key focus on handling Finance Litigation matters for an established portfolio of lenders and asset based lenders, including enforcement of loan agreements, personal guarantees, their security, debt recovery instructions from these lenders for collection of invoices assigned to them as well as complex debt recovery and contractual claims, from the wider Hill Dickinson Client base. The candidate will be required to supervise and develop junior fee earners and assist with the growth and development of the client base. The candidate will also assist with a varied caseload within the Commercial Litigation team from inception to conclusion, and assisting other fee earners with specific tasks on matters. Whilst primarily based in the Manchester Office we would expect you to assist clients from across the offices of the firm.
Introduction to the team:
The Commercial Litigation team in Manchester comprises of 3 Partners, 2 Legal Directors, 1 Senior Associate, 3 Associates, 2 Trainees and 1 Secretary, covering a wide breadth of commercial litigation and arbitration work. Individually we all have a broad range of experience across both general Commercial dispute work and various individuals in the team also carry out more specialist work, including in relation to tech and IP disputes. We have monthly team meetings, annual and ad hoc social events, training and BD related planning activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Handling a complex caseload of debt recovery matters.
- Client liaison in person, in writing and over the telephone.
- Communicate with clients, litigants in person, solicitors, counsel, courts and all other interested parties.
- Resolving issues that arise as part of the litigation process.
- Drafting a range of legal documents.
- Instructing Counsel and experts.
- Preparation of reports to clients.
- Negotiation.
- Business development including preparation of articles and insights.
- Undertake appropriate additional tasks provided by the other members of the team.
- May be asked to go on secondment to support our client relationships.
Essential Experience:
- Experience and a real interest in dealing with Financial Litigation and Debt Recovery Claims.
- General Commercial Litigation experience.
- The ability to be proactive when dealing with claims and communicating with clients and other solicitors.
- A positive, can do attitude.
- Able to work as a team player assisting across the team as well as being able to work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
- Hard working and professional.
