Role Overview
The Health Litigation team specializes in clinical negligence claims for NHS Resolution (formerly NHS Litigation Authority), NHS Trusts, and other defendant clinical negligence clients. The role offers a unique opportunity to manage primary‑care litigation work and claims against quit trusts, supporting an award‑winning team recognized as Public Sector Legal Advisor of the Year at the HealthInvestor Awards.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft reports, witness statements, and launch expert and counsel instructions.
- Interview witnesses and manage case documentation.
- Attend court for case‑management conferences and application hearings.
- Negotiate settlements, hold conferences with counsel, and prepare for trials and mediations.
Additional Duties
- Cover secondments to NHS Resolution.
- Assist colleagues with higher‑value claims.
- Draft articles for clients and cover free‑advice clinics at local hospital trusts.
- Provide client training and presentations.
- Build and maintain client and internal relationships, adhering to operating procedures.
- Contribute to business development by seeking new opportunities.
- Continuously improve the Health business group and wider firm.
- Supervise colleagues’ work and support team development through delegation and coaching.
What Are We Looking For
- Qualified Solicitor or equivalent.
- Defendant clinical negligence experience at an NHSR panel firm.
- Preferably MDO experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a growing team, both in the office and remotely.
- Demonstrated understanding of clients’ needs and expectations.
- Adherence to guidelines, client protocols and KPIs.
- Proactive, pragmatic approach with focus on quality.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizing and communication skills.
- Awareness of client data security requirements.
- Evidence of meeting hours and contribution targets.
