Role overview:

We are seeking a proactive and confident individual to support the Billing & Credit Control Manager in maximising cash collection, reducing aged debt, and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This is a dual billing and credit control role within a fast-paced finance environment, requiring an individual who is highly organised, adaptable, and comfortable working under pressure. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring effective debt recovery while supporting billing processes across a varied client portfolio. You will build and maintain excellent relationships with clients, fee earners, and colleagues across the firm, communicating effectively to manage expectations and resolve queries. The role requires someone who thrives in a busy, high-volume environment, is not phased by competing priorities, and can consistently deliver results.

Key responsibilities:

  • Proactively manage a portfolio of customer accounts to ensure timely payment of invoices and achievement of cash collection targets
  • Monitor and chase overdue debts (primarily by phone), resolving queries and disputes promptly to reduce aged debt
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, fee earners, and internal stakeholders to support collection outcomes
  • Process billing activities, including bill checking, posting, credit note processing, e-billing on client systems, and payor set up
  • Process debt and disbursement write-offs and carry out ad hoc recovery exercises as required
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all credit control and account activity
  • Support month-end and year-end processes, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Handle billing and credit control queries, providing support to internal and external stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly within the team to achieve individual and collaborative targets and support priority areas

  • Proven experience in a credit control role, managing a high-value ledger with a large volume of transactions
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload effectively to maximise cash collection and ensure optimum recovery outcomes
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a busy portfolio independently
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and finance systems
  • Proactive, adaptable, and target-driven approach

It would be beneficial for you to have some of the following:

  • Experience with billing processes and e-billing platforms
