About the role
Responsible to the Home Manager for the upkeep of the Care Home and surrounding grounds, undertaking planned maintenance of the home ensuring excellent first impressions to all who visit. Ensure the smooth operation and serviceability of all services such as heating, lighting, plumbing and non‑medical equipment required for the safe and efficient operation of the Home. Engage proactively with all stakeholders to carry out tasks to a high standard and support residents’ wellbeing.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the home’s exterior including pathways, driveways, flowerbeds, potted plants and grassed areas to enhance first impressions.
- Ensure external lighting and signs are clear, visible and in good order.
- Complete essential checks and report all maintenance defects.
- Undertake decorating tasks – painting, wallpapering, minor refurbishment and maintenance within the home.
- Provide out‑of‑hours emergency service via the on‑call rota and temporary cover for sister homes as requested.
- Act as an active Fire Warden, keeping up to date with policy and procedures and completing required training.
- Induct new staff as required.
- Assemble and install new equipment and goods delivered to the home.
- Assist with fire and water risk assessments and reviews.
- Carry out plumbing, joinery and general building repairs to a good standard.
- Maintain the company vehicle and carry out basic safety checks.
- Promote independent living opportunities for older people and work unsupervised.
- Carry out fault finding and basic repairs to all equipment, e.g., catering and laundering machines.
Qualifications
- Background in maintenance, joinery, carpentry, electrical or plumbing.
- Hands‑on experience supporting the maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Ability to work independently and proactively.
- Basic understanding of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
- Strong commitment to health and safety standards.
