The Northern Lighthouse Board, in partnership with City of Glasgow College, are offering Deck Apprenticeships to passionate and aspiring seafarers. Currently have vacancies for Able Seafarer Deck Apprentices.

The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.
What We Offer You:
- You will undertake a comprehensive training programme with the City of Glasgow College.
- During sea time, you will spend two months on board followed by one month off and be supported by a Mentor on the ship to progress through your Merchant Navy Training Book.
- Additional technical training will be offered in seafaring skills by NLB.
Salary and Benefits:
- The current pay band for a Deck Apprentice is £23,820 per year and is reviewed annually.
- Other benefits include a career average occupational pension scheme with an average employer contribution of 28%.
- All accommodation and travel costs are funded by the NLB.
Our Ideal Candidate will be:
- At least 18 years old.
- Able to get on with people, have a good head for safety, be ready to take advice and follow instruction.
- Require a valid unrestricted MCA Medical Certificate (ENG 1) prior to commencement of the programme (September 2026).
