Lochaber Womens Aid is a feminist organisation that understands domestic abuse as a gendered crime and works to end violence against women and children. We are recruiting a Specialist Domestic Abuse Worker (Children and Young People) to provide one-to-one practical and emotional support to children who have been affected by domestic abuse. You will work directly with children and young people, offering emotional and practical support in a trauma-informed, child-centred way. The role involves helping young people identify their support needs, explore realistic solutions, and develop coping strategies, while building trusting, supportive relationships.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a clear understanding that domestic abuse is a gendered crime and understands its impact on women and children.
- Has a good understanding of trauma and its effects.
- Has experience providing direct emotional and practical support.
- Has strong communication skills and can build safe, supportive relationships.
- Can support young people to identify their needs, explore options, and develop coping strategies to reduce trauma and anxiety.
- Has the confidence to work sensitively with children who have experienced abuse.
Ongoing training and mentoring will be provided, including further learning around domestic abuse, trauma, and recovery.
Hours: This is a term-time post. (39 weeks per year) Hours to be confirmed.
Salary: £26,113.45 FTE (33hpw)
