The Highway Safety team are responsible for ensuring that the 1930km road network is safe and suitable for all users to travel throughout Kirklees without being involved in a road traffic collision. Recently adopting a Safe Systems approach to the introduction of engineering and education measures, the team are working towards our Vision Zero ambition of 0 Killed or Seriously Injured Casualties on our local roads by 2040.
To help achieve our ambition we are looking for a Senior Engineer with the following skills and experience to join the team:
- Experience of designing road engineering schemes – desirable with some safety related experience
- Can reply to Councillors, MPs, and residents' concerns regarding road safety on the network
- Able to provide professional and technical advice in road safety and highway engineering
- Can analyse engineering problems and use your technical expertise and engineering judgment to produce solutions – especially when considering interventions to address areas with a high number of road traffic collisions
- Experience in or knowledge of road safety audits and/or willingness to learn to become one of the internal road safety auditors
- Undertake the relevant duty holder's role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, in particular, Designer, and help others to understand and undertake theirs
