Are you a proactive and motivated Process Safety Engineer with an interest in the UK storage and energy market? Highview is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of process safety management (PSM) systems across all operational and project sites.

The role is a great opportunity for a safety engineer to gain further practical, client‑side experience in UK projects currently in execution as well as early‑stage developments. The Process Safety Engineer will work across all areas of a major Project, support the development of the Corporate Engineering Management systems, and act as Delegation of Authority for the company Process Safety Authority. Key tasks, activities and responsibilities of the role

  • Process Safety Strategy & Governance
    • Support the company’s Process Safety Management framework.
    • Implement a “safety in design” module within Highview’s safety management system using best in class industrial practice such as safety case regime/industrial gases practice.
    • Provide engineering support to the Process Safety Technical Authority for Highview in both design and operations.
    • Support, lead and participate in project Bowtie Risk Assessments, HAZID/ENVID, HAZOP, SIL studies, and other safety workshops as required to ensure integration into operational practice and procedures.
    • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, offering expert guidance on process safety, fire safety, and risk management.
    • Review inter-discipline engineering (IDC) documents.
    • Comply with all safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
    • Update and maintenance of all safety related statistical reporting.
  • Risk Assessment & Hazard Management
    • The identification and evaluation of major accident hazards (MAHs).
    • Development and maintenance of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) and associated performance standards, with implementation guidance into operational inspection and maintenance routines.
    • Support COMAH compliance and interface with regulatory bodies as required.
  • Training & Competency
    • Support the development of a process safety culture through awareness campaigns and engagement with design and site teams.
  • Incident Investigation & Learning
    • Lead or support investigations into process safety incidents and near hits.
    • Ensure root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Monitor process safety KPIs and lead improvement initiatives.
    • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Projects teams to embed process safety into design and operational decision-making.
