Overview
Homelessness Support Worker. Location: Martin House & Hatfield Road, St Albans. Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week). Salary: Β£25,857 per annum. Join our team at Martin House, a fast-paced 16-bed homelessness service where we support adults facing complex challenges such as trauma, mental health needs, substance misuse and barriers to independence. We work together to create a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where people feel supported, understood and empowered to move forward.
The Role
- Support 8 residents, working alongside another Support Worker who supports the other 8.
- Provide direct, person-centred support and encourage daily living skills.
- Help residents set goals and build confidence.
- Respond calmly and professionally to challenging situations.
- Complete accurate case notes, risk assessments and support plans.
- Keep the building safe with regular checks and reporting repairs.
- Manage a busy caseload and maintain key compliance tasks.
- You may also occasionally visit Hatfield Road, our smaller 5-bed service, for health & safety checks.
- Lone working is a regular part of the role, so confidence and good decision-making are essential.
About You
You are resilient, proactive and calm under pressure, with the ability to build trust and maintain strong professional boundaries. You communicate well, work independently and collaboratively, stay organised and use IT confidently. Most importantly, you bring a compassionate, non-judgemental approach and a genuine desire to help people move toward stability and independence.
Shifts
This role requires flexibility, as you will work a 3-week rolling rota that includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
Shifts include:
- Early shifts: 7am-3pm or 9am-5pm
- Late shifts: 2pm-10pm
- Weekend shifts: 1 in every 3 weekends (10am-6pm)
A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is required (business insurance needed if appointed).
