Join Us as a Waking Night Worker - Open Door Homeless Hub (St Albans)
35 hours per week - £26,136pa (rolling 4-week rota 9.30pm - 8.30am)
Do you want to make a real difference in people’s lives? At Hightown, we are looking for a caring and committed individual to join us as a Waking Night Worker.
Open Door is a night shelter in St Albans, providing emergency accommodation for up to 12 single homeless people each night. We also run a drop-in service for those who are street homeless, offering vital support and a safe space.
As part of our dedicated team, you will provide overnight support that empowers individuals to live independently and with dignity. You will work alongside a sleep-in colleague, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the shelter. Some light overnight cleaning duties are included.

Key responsibilities as a Waking Night Worker:
- Supporting vulnerable adults during night hours, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
- Communicating effectively using various methods tailored to individual needs.

- Promoting independence and respecting the wishes of the people we support.
- Maintaining accurate records and reporting any concerns promptly.

Hightown Benefits:
- Generous annual leave allowance of 33 days per year (pro rata), including statutory bank holidays, rising to 35 days with service.
- £26,136pa for a 35 hour per week contract.
