This is a rare opportunity to join our small professional team producing award-winning world-class gourmet chocolates. This position is suited to an efficient, motivated, patient assistant who listens carefully, works efficiently and flexibly while developing skills necessary to become an artisan chocolatier. This role requires an organised mind which thrives on fine detailed work executed quickly under deadlines while remaining calm and kind.

What we're looking for:

  • Has a continuous attitude of learning.
  • Has a sharp eye for detail and is content with repetitive tasks in a production kitchen.
  • Works efficiently under pressure in an organised way.
  • Follows directions and recipes precisely.
  • Appreciates the difference between standard and gourmet chocolate.
  • Values genuine friendships and proactively contributes to a kind, positive team culture.
  • Communicates assertively with the Master Chocolatier and team mates.
  • Can support others closely as well as work independently with responsibility.

A passion for gourmet food is vital together with a willingness to work to the standards required by the Highland Chocolatier brand. Personal qualities are more important than experience as full training will be given.

Why 3 years? You need to be confident to make this level of commitment because of the investment we are going to make in your training. It takes at least 3 years to learn the many detailed tasks to the high level of skill and speed required. This is not a job for just a season or one year.

Will the work satisfy my creativity? This is a production kitchen with volume and repetition. You will not be experimenting and creating new recipes, which is the remit of the Master Chocolatier after many more years of experience. Every week you will be working in the small production team making thousands of chocolates to an exacting world-class standard using Iain Burnett's proven recipes, methods and carefully chosen ingredients.

What kind of person loves this kind of work? Someone who:

  • Loves repetition (tens of thousands of chocolates each week to the same 30 recipes).
  • Gets personal satisfaction from fine detailing (has a natural ability to spot the tiny imperfections on each chocolate and wants to turn out perfect work).
  • Loves working quickly and efficiently (once trained and able to maintain the standard, you are excited to be able to pick up the pace to meet deadlines).
  • Loves helping other people in a small team (happy to work flexibly where needed, whether packing, making or cleaning work, or having to suddenly change task to help with a late order).
  • Enjoys being methodical and logical (following a recipe or procedure accurately and consistently).
  • Has always had a constant attitude of learning from others (has the humility to never assume that learning is finished).

Benefits of working here:

  • Permanent, full-time, year-round work, with excellent pay.
  • Being surrounded by a kind and supportive team.
  • Training to world-class standards.
  • Usual working hours 9 to 5.30 Monday to Friday.
  • Applicants must live within daily travelling distance of PH9 0PL.

Please send your CV with contact details for 2 referees and a handwritten covering letter to Master Chocolatier Iain Burnett.
