This is a field engineer position which is home based. The field engineers are responsible for commissioning, maintaining, repairing and occasionally modifying our range of power protection products.
The job would suit an appropriately qualified person who already has field service experience, especially if they have worked for one of the other main UPS manufacturers; however, this is not essential. Our product range consists of, but is not limited to:
- battery backed rotary UPS systems
- diesel UPS systems with both battery and kinetic energy storage
- static UPS systems
- static and rotary frequency converters including 400Hz aircraft ground power equipment
The field engineers are mobile and are responsible for ensuring that they arrive at site on time, with all of the necessary tools, spares and equipment required to complete the assigned task. The field engineers are allocated a task from head office and are given all of the job details; they are then expected to ensure that they are properly prepared for the visit.
The field engineers are employed on a 5 from 7 day contract which requires them to work, on average, every other weekend with 2 other days off scheduled during the week. A high degree of flexibility is required to enable us to keep pace with the ever changing demands of our customer base. We cannot stress enough that this is not a '9 to 5' job and requires a person who can cope with sudden change of routine and who must occasionally be prepared to work away at short notice. Some of our customers require out of hours work, so some night work will be required.
The field service team provides a 24/7 on call service which is manned by 2 engineers every day of the year. The on call duty lasts for 7 days with a gap of between 7 and 10 weeks between duties. When on call, the engineer is required to be available to attend customers' sites at any time of day or night if required to do so. New engineers are expected to get up to speed quickly and will be required to join the on call list as soon as possible and no later than 6 months after their employment starts.
The Package:
The working week is based on 5 from 7 days where every other weekend is a working weekend. The standard overtime rate is 1.25 times the contracted hourly rate. Overtime is paid on a daily basis after 10 hours of work has been completed. Overtime is paid for any work carried out between 22:00 and 06:00. Overtime is paid for rest day working and is paid for all hours worked during a rest day. All tools and instrumentation are provided and maintained by the company. All PPE - Company clothing is provided. A company van is provided which is available for private use and is fully expensed if required subject to HMRC taxation rules. A company pension scheme and private medical scheme are available after a qualifying period. The company will pay reasonable expenses incurred on company business and provides a company credit card for this purpose.
