The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Engineer to join our engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of plant machinery.
Working from our workshop, you will ensure equipment is prepared to the highest standards for hire and customer use while maintaining compliance with all relevant safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of plant machinery.
- Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and preventative maintenance.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults efficiently.
- Complete pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) to ensure equipment is ready for hire.
- Prepare machinery to company standards, ensuring reliability and safety.
- Replace defective components and carry out major repairs where required.
- Accurately complete job cards, inspection sheets, and maintenance records.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
- Ensure all work complies with current health and safety legislation and company procedures.
- Liaise with the Workshop Manager regarding repair progress, parts requirements, and workload priorities.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of machinery within the depot when required.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote best engineering practices.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience maintaining and repairing plant machinery.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and mechanical engineering.
- Ability to diagnose faults quickly and effectively.
- Experience using workshop diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within a workshop environment.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 (or equivalent) in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural Engineering, Heavy Vehicle Maintenance, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience working on excavators, dumpers, telehandlers, rollers, generators, compressors, or similar equipment.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Forklift licence.
- IPAF, CPCS, or NPORS qualifications (beneficial but not essential).
