About the Company
Our client is an established UK supplier and service provider of security X-ray machines, metal detection archways, and explosive and narcotics detection equipment, with installations across aviation, government, logistics and major public events. Their engineering teams install, integrate and maintain screening systems to the highest international and ECAC aviation security standards. The company is employee-owned, having completed an Employee Ownership Trust transition this year.
The Role
Our client is recruiting an experienced engineer to join their Southern regional team, supporting critical security screening equipment, including conventional X-ray and CT (Computed Tomography) machines, across Heathrow, Luton and Southend Airports. You will work as part of a five-person engineering team covering the Southern region on a rotating five-week pattern that combines standard daytime working, daytime on-call emergency response, and night and weekend cover.
Working Pattern
- Weeks 1 to 3: Standard working week, Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week. Scheduled engineering visits and maintenance.
- Week 4: Day on-call, Monday to Friday, 04:00 to 16:00 daily. Emergency response to critical sites.
- Week 5: Nights plus full weekend cover, 16:00 to 04:00 daily including weekends. Out-of-hours and weekend emergency response.
Any hours worked above the standard 36-hour week are paid at time and a half.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, service and repair security screening equipment, including conventional and CT X-ray machines and metal detection systems, at airport sites across the Southern region.
- Respond to emergency call-outs at critical sites during scheduled on-call and night/weekend rotations.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance to keep equipment operating to required aviation security standards.
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for all site visits.
- Work closely with the wider Southern regional engineering team to ensure consistent site coverage.
- Attend training at the company's factory and, where required, at the manufacturing partner's facility in Warsaw, Poland, to maintain up-to-date competency on conventional and CT equipment.
Essential Requirements
- Holds a valid British passport.
- Has been continuously resident in the UK for the last 10 years, as required to obtain CTC and SC level security clearance. Non-UK citizens cannot be put forward for clearance at this level.
- Willing and able to work the rotating shift pattern, including day on-call and night/weekend cover.
- Willing to travel to the company factory for training, and occasionally to Warsaw, Poland, for supplier training on conventional and CT machines.
- Full UK driving licence, as a company vehicle is provided for site travel.
- Relevant engineering background, ideally with experience servicing electromechanical, X-ray, or security screening equipment. Full training provided.
Salary & Benefits
- Starting salary of £42,000 per annum, rising to £44,000 per annum on successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
- Salary paid monthly, direct to your bank account, on the 27th of each month.
- Overtime paid at time and a half for any hours worked above the standard 36-hour week.
- Five hours of overtime pay for every weekend worked on call.
- An additional £3,000 per year on-call shift allowance.
- 25 days' annual holiday, plus 8 statutory bank holidays.
- Company pension scheme (Company contributes 3%, employee contributes 5%), available after an initial qualifying period. Participation is voluntary.
