The Commissioning / Project Engineer is responsible for managing the installation, commissioning, and handover of fire protection systems. The role involves supervising engineers and subcontractors, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget, while maintaining high technical and quality standards.

Installation & Engineering

  • Act as Installation Engineer, Service Engineer, and Senior Engineer as required across projects.
  • Carry out and oversee installation and commissioning of fire detection and fire protection systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to installation teams.

Project & Site Management

  • Supervise installation engineers and subcontractors on larger or complex projects.
  • Liaise with site agents, main contractors, and clients to ensure site requirements are met.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, site rules, and company procedures.
  • Monitor progress against project programmes and deadlines.

Commissioning & Handover

  • Supervise and carry out commissioning of systems in line with relevant standards.
  • Manage system testing, fault finding, and final adjustments.
  • Lead handover of completed systems to clients, including demonstrations and training where required.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Produce accurate and complete O&M (Operation & Maintenance) Manuals.
  • Ensure all commissioning records, certificates, and documentation are completed and submitted.
  • Report on project progress, issues, and variations to management.

Commercial & Quality Control

  • Support delivery of projects on time and within budget.
  • Identify risks, delays, or cost overruns and escalate where necessary.
  • Ensure installations meet quality standards and relevant British Standards.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer, Project Engineer, or Senior Installation Engineer within the fire protection industry.
  • Strong knowledge of fire detection, alarm, and life safety systems.
  • Experience supervising engineers and subcontractors on site.
  • Good understanding of health & safety and site-based working practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and commissioning plans.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and client-facing skills.
  • Competent in producing O&M manuals and technical documentation.
  • Full UK driving licence (if applicable).
