Job Title: Site Manager – Highways (Roundabout Upgrade) Location: Northampton, UK Position Type: Freelance Position – Inside IR35 Duration: Immediate Start – December 2025 (Minimum) Day Rate: £(Apply online only) Inside IR35 Working Days: Monday to Friday (weekends as required) Project Overview: A Tier 1 civil engineering contractor is seeking a freelance Site Manager to support the delivery of a major roundabout upgrade project in Northampton. The project forms part of a wider strategic highways improvement programme. The role will involve managing day-to-day site activities, ensuring the project is delivered safely, on time, and to the required specification and quality standards. Key Responsibilities: Manage daily site operations across all phases of the roundabout upgrade Supervise subcontractors, direct labour, and suppliers on-site Coordinate activities such as drainage, earthworks, utilities diversions, kerbing, and surfacing Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, CDM regs, and project-specific RAMS Maintain site records, diaries, and progress reports Manage and support temporary works and traffic management setups Work closely with the project management team, local authorities, and client reps Required Certifications & Qualifications: SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – Mandatory CSCS Card (Gold/Black – Manager Level) – Mandatory First Aid at Work – Mandatory NRSWA Supervisor – Desirable Temporary Works Supervisor/Coordinator – Desirable Full UK Driving Licence – Required Ideal Candidate Profile Experienced freelance Site Manager with a strong track record on UK highways projects Previous work with Tier 1 contractors preferred Confident managing busy live environments with traffic interfaces and complex phasing Familiar with NEC contracts and DfT/Highways England standards Capable of working autonomously and driving programme delivery Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Role Benefits Long-term freelance opportunity through to at least December 2025 High-profile scheme with a reputable Tier 1 main contractor Competitive day rates Opportunity to work on a technically challenging and career-enhancing highways scheme
