I am currently recruiting for a SCL Site Engineer for a major Highways project in Birmingham.
Location: Birmingham
Rate: £500 per day
Start Date: Immediate
Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts
Work Patterns:
- April 25 - Mid May 2025:
- Shift Pattern: 5/2
- Schedule: Monday to Friday (alternating between day and night shift weekly)
- Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
- Shift Pattern:
- 10/4 Day Shift: 12-hour shifts, 5 days on
- 9/5 Night Shift: 12-hour shifts, 4 or 5 days on
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting Out & Surveying: Provide setting out and final checks using Total Station and Amber System for SCL excavation and 2nd lining works. Control excavation profiles and shotcrete spray profiles.
- Project Planning & Coordination: Liaise with subcontractors to ensure timely execution of works. Coordinate access, resources, and work zones efficiently.
- Supervision & Management: Supervise subcontractors and direct labour to ensure adherence to schedule, specs, and HSE requirements. Monitor daily progress and proactively manage delays or issues.
- Quality Control & Assurance: Inspect work and materials for compliance with standards and specifications. Perform on-site testing (e.g., shotcrete-related tests). Set up and monitor maturity sensors for 2nd lining concrete. Coordinate ITP-driven testing with Quality Team and Client.
- Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE): Ensure full compliance with site safety procedures and legal requirements. Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and lead daily briefings (RAMS, TBS). Provide HSE inductions for new team members and visitors.
- Reporting & Documentation: Maintain daily progress logs, track materials, hours, and key events. Report delays, issues, or incidents to senior management. Prepare and maintain safety documents (RAMS, TBS, permits, etc.).
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience in SCL tunnelling or sprayed concrete lining environment.
- Proficiency with Total Station, Amber system, and maturity sensors.
- Strong leadership and coordination skills.
- HSE qualification or training desirable (e.g., SMSTS, CSCS).
