Are you an experienced Civil & Structural Engineer looking to take on a technically challenging role within a major UK infrastructure programme?
We're seeking a Principal Civil & Structural Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across the design and assurance of buildings, structures, groundworks and site infrastructure on a complex, highly regulated engineering project.
This is an opportunity to influence engineering decisions from concept through to delivery while working on a first‑of‑a‑kind programme where innovation, technical excellence and sound engineering judgement are critical.
The Role
Working as part of an integrated engineering team, you'll act as the technical authority for civil and structural engineering, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, integrated and delivered to the required level of maturity.
You'll provide expert guidance across multidisciplinary interfaces, helping shape design strategy while managing technical risks, governance and engineering assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Civil & Structural Engineering Design Authority support across buildings, structures, groundworks and site infrastructure.
- Define and maintain the civil engineering design basis, principles and technical requirements.
- Lead technical governance, design reviews and engineering assurance activities.
- Ensure seamless integration between civil works and wider engineering systems.
- Identify and manage technical risks, assumptions and design dependencies.
- Support concept development and translate emerging requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Assess design maturity and readiness for key project milestones, including construction.
- Provide independent technical challenge and ensure engineering decisions maintain design integrity.
- Support safety case development and compliance within a highly regulated environment.
About You
We're looking for engineers who can demonstrate
- Significant experience in Civil & Structural Engineering within complex engineering or highly regulated industries.
- Experience acting in a Design Authority, Technical Authority or Lead Engineering capacity.
- Strong knowledge of civil structures, buildings, foundations, infrastructure and engineering governance.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary design interfaces.
- Excellent understanding of engineering assurance, technical risk management and design reviews.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations and statutory engineering obligations.
- The ability to make sound engineering decisions where requirements are evolving or design information is incomplete.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
