We are currently recruiting for an experienced Earthworks Engineering Surveyor to join a major infrastructure project in Norfolk on a long-term contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a modern, technology-driven delivery team operating a fully connected earthworks fleet.

This role will suit someone with a strong background in machine control, surveying, and earthworks engineering who is confident working both independently and collaboratively across site operations.

The Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting site operations through the production and management of 3D machine control models, site calibration, surveying activities, and digital quality assurance processes. The position will involve approximately 80% site-based work and 20% office-based data processing and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and manage 3D models for machine control using Trimble Works OS
  • Support a fully connected fleet of earthworks plant without the use of traditional batter rails or pegs
  • Manage and implement design changes in the field efficiently and accurately
  • Explain and support machine operatives with model usage where required
  • Complete 3D machine control site setups, installations, calibrations, and maintenance
  • Install, check, update, and maintain site control networks
  • Monitor and maintain performance of 3DMC systems across site operations
  • Carry out regular as-built surveys using Trimble GPS rover equipment
  • Process survey data into cut/fill analysis, volumetric calculations, and progress measures using LSS software
  • Undertake land surveying activities including progress tracking and pre-entry surveys
  • Support site teams with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), QA documentation, and RAMS where required
  • Complete digital quality inspection records on tablet devices daily
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and design information for accuracy and completeness

Requirements

  • Previous experience working within earthworks, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects
  • Strong experience using Trimble machine control systems and Trimble Works OS
  • Proficient in setting up, calibrating, and maintaining 3D machine control systems
  • Experience carrying out as-built surveys and volumetric calculations
  • Competent using Trimble GPS rover equipment
  • Experience using LSS software for cut/fill and progress reporting
  • Good understanding of QA processes, ITPs, and digital inspection records
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to support and guide machine operatives on site
  • CSCS card essential
