We are recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a major highways infrastructure scheme in Manchester. The project involves significant earthworks and drainage-led construction within a live highways environment, supporting wider motorway widening and junction improvement works.
Reporting to the Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in the safe and accurate delivery of earthworks, drainage, and associated highways infrastructure packages.
Project Scope Overview
- Large-scale earthworks, cut and fill operations, and formation preparation
- Highways drainage installation, diversions, and upgrades
- Pavement construction and sub-base works
- Motorway widening and new link road construction
- Highway signage, lighting, and ancillary civil works
- Complex traffic management within a live motorway environment
- Supporting technology and ITS infrastructure installations
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out setting out and surveying for earthworks, drainage, and highways works.
- Support bulk earthworks operations including levels, formation control, and quantity checks.
- Set out drainage systems including pipes, manholes, culverts, and attenuation features.
- Ensure works are delivered safely, to specification, on programme, and to required quality standards.
- Maintain accurate site records, QA documentation, as-builts, and daily diaries.
- Ensure permits, RAMS, and inspection records are in place prior to works commencing.
- Review drawings and resolve technical queries with engineering and design teams.
- Coordinate with site teams, supervisors, and subcontractors to support delivery.
- Monitor progress and assist with short-term planning and sequencing of works.
- Promote a Right First Time approach to reduce rework and improve efficiency.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Site Engineer on highways or major infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience in earthworks and/or drainage packages.
- Confident in setting out, surveying, and QA processes.
- Experience working in live highway environments is advantageous.
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality delivery.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Valid CSCS Card.
