We're looking for an experienced Highway Maintenance Supervisor to support a range of highways maintenance works across Cambridge on a freelance basis. This is a 2-3-month temporary cover position, operating inside IR35.
About the Role
Infrastructure is constantly evolving - maintaining, renewing, and reimagining it is critical. With this role, you'll join a team where safety comes first and where you'll be supported to succeed in a friendly, collaborative, and respectful environment.
You'll be involved in delivering essential highway maintenance services that support the safe transportation and movement of people across the Cambridge region. From planned and reactive maintenance to highways improvement schemes, the work you supervise will help keep local communities moving.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Deliver services in line with contract requirements, ensuring client and customer satisfaction.
- Plan, programme, supervise and execute all allocated work in accordance with specifications, drawings and commercial expectations.
- Manage operational margins through effective pre-works planning and on-site supervision.
- Take responsibility for day-to-day Health & Safety for staff and supply chain partners, including delivering toolbox talks.
- Ensure all work complies with local procedures and operational policies, including accurate coding and change control.
- Set, agree and monitor performance objectives relating to time, cost, safety and quality.
- Provide leadership, training and ongoing development for staff and operatives.
- Manage vehicles and plant associated with the depot and project works.
- Support and mentor apprentices.
- Participate in Emergency and Winter Maintenance activities.
What You'll Bring
- Experience in construction delivery and supervising a workforce.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to identify cost efficiencies and maintain cost control.
- Experience within the highway maintenance industry OR relevant tickets such as CSCS, NRSWA, SSSTS/SMSTS.
- Strong leadership, motivational and influencing skills.
- Good general IT skills, ideally with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, contractors and clients.
- Flexibility and a positive approach to change, helping to drive improvements through the wider team.
