About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Manager to lead and oversee commissioning activities on a major programme at AWE Burghfield. This is a high-profile, complex project within a secure and highly regulated environment, requiring strong leadership, coordination, and technical capability across mechanical, electrical, and process systems. The successful candidate will manage commissioning teams, interface with construction, design, and operations stakeholders, and ensure that systems are safely and effectively brought into service in line with project and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all commissioning activities, ensuring safe and compliant delivery.
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules.
  • Manage commissioning teams, contractors, and subcontractors on site.
  • Interface with design, construction, safety, and client teams to ensure seamless handover.
  • Oversee documentation, test packs, ITPs, and system sign-offs.
  • Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and project milestones.
  • Provide technical leadership and resolve commissioning issues as they arise.
  • Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned across commissioning processes.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven track record as a Senior Commissioning Manager or Commissioning Lead on large, complex engineering projects.
  • Background in mechanical or electrical engineering (M&E bias preferred).
  • Experience within highly regulated environments – nuclear, defence, or similar sectors strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning management systems, methodologies, and documentation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work full-time on site and flexibly to meet project demands (occasional evenings/weekends).
  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/Degree) and professional affiliation advantageous.
  • Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance.
