Overview
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Engineer to support delivery on a major civil engineering project near Newton Abbot. The role will suit a hands-on engineer with strong experience across highways, civils, drainage and earthworks, working closely with the Site Agent and Senior Engineer to ensure works are delivered safely, accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and implementation of method statements, risk assessments, task sheets, procedures and environmental controls.
- Understand and implement Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring hold points are observed and all check sheets are completed.
- Provide engineering support to resolve technical issues and respond to technical queries.
- Carry out setting out of works within allowable tolerances.
- Regularly check setting out points and benchmarks, ensuring all surveying instruments and measuring equipment are calibrated, certified and recorded.
- Ensure the workforce clearly understands setting out information relevant to the works being undertaken.
- Assist in the preparation of site sketches and drawings to ensure clear communication on site.
- Support the implementation of the Health, Safety and Environmental Management System, promoting a safe working environment at all times.
- Assist with change management, including design change requests, subcontractor checks, procedural updates and technical documentation.
- Maintain daily site diaries and progress tracking records.
- Provide engineering input for the correct procurement of materials and services.
- Assist the Site Agent with materials and services procurement.
- Report directly to the Senior Engineer.
- Support the training and development of junior engineers on site.
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a Site Engineer on civil engineering projects.
- Proven experience in highways, civils, drainage and earthworks.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within civil engineering environments.
- Ability to prioritise time-critical works and manage competing demands.
- Excellent communication and liaison skills.
- Valid CSCS card.
- Full UK driving licence.
