Job Title: Freelance Commissioning Engineer – Clean Water Projects Location: Kent (Site-Based Across the Region) Engagement Type: Freelance / Contract Industry: Water / Utilities / Infrastructure Overview: We are seeking a reliable and experienced Freelance Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of clean water infrastructure projects across Kent, with a primary focus on boreholes, pumping stations, and treatment systems. This is a contract-based role suited to a self-employed professional able to work independently, manage site commissioning activities, and liaise with multiple stakeholders. Scope of Services: Lead commissioning activities for clean water assets including boreholes, pumps, chlorination units, and associated M&E systems. Develop and implement commissioning plans, RAMS, and test procedures in line with project specifications. Undertake on-site testing, inspection, and fault-finding of mechanical and electrical systems. Perform chlorination and dechlorination works in compliance with DWI and water authority standards. Liaise with project teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to coordinate and deliver commissioning works efficiently. Maintain accurate documentation and provide clear reporting during commissioning and handover phases. Ensure all works are undertaken safely, adhering to current HSE regulations and site requirements. Requirements: Demonstrable experience as a commissioning engineer within the clean water sector. Proven track record working on borehole schemes, pumping stations, and treatment systems. Solid understanding of M&E systems, control panels, instrumentation, and commissioning protocols. EUSR (Clean Water Hygiene) and CSCS (or equivalent) certification. Strong interpersonal and organisational skills – able to self-manage on live project sites. Own transport, tools, and necessary insurances (public liability, professional indemnity). Flexibility to travel across Kent and work on a project-by-project basis. Desirable Certifications: SMSTS / SSSTS Confined Space Training First Aid BS 8558 knowledge or related chlorination experience HNC / NVQ Electrical, or Process Engineering Engagement Details: Day rate: Competitive (based on experience and scope) Duration: Project-based, with ongoing work opportunities Start: Immediate / as agreed Location: Various clean water sites across Kent
