Lead Engineering Delivery on a Major Nuclear Waste Storage Project
We are looking for an experienced Package Manager - Waste Engineering to support the delivery of the Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) Buffer Storage Project at Culham. This is a key engineering role within a major nuclear programme, providing the opportunity to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities and help take a significant facility project through concept, preliminary and detailed design.
The Role
As Package Manager, you will act as a key engineering focal point, working closely with the Lead Engineer and Project Engineer to coordinate technical activities, manage interfaces and ensure engineering deliverables are delivered safely, effectively and in accordance with project requirements. You will work across a wide range of engineering disciplines and stakeholders, including engineering teams, waste management, safety case, operations, Health Physics, project controls, Design Authority and external suppliers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities through concept, preliminary and detailed design.
- Managing technical interfaces between engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
- Supporting the development of engineering requirements, specifications and design documentation.
- Coordinating concept designs, optioneering studies and engineering assessments.
- Supporting design reviews, governance reviews, readiness reviews and stage gates.
- Managing engineering actions, risks, assumptions, opportunities and dependencies.
- Reviewing engineering deliverables and constructively challenging technical solutions.
- Supporting project planning, procurement and construction readiness.
- Providing intelligent customer capability for engineering suppliers.
- Ensuring engineering activities comply with relevant safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
What We're Looking For
Nuclear experience is essential. You will ideally have:
- Degree-level qualification in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Process, Nuclear Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
- CEng status or demonstrable progress towards professional registration.
- Proven experience delivering engineering projects within the nuclear sector.
- Experience working through concept, preliminary and detailed design phases.
- Strong multidisciplinary engineering coordination and interface management experience.
- Experience as a Project Engineer, Responsible Engineer, Design Engineer, Package Manager or similar.
- Experience developing and reviewing engineering requirements, specifications and technical reports.
- Experience managing technical risks, actions, assumptions and dependencies.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across engineering, operations and project teams.
- Familiarity with CDM Regulations 2015, ALARP and UK nuclear governance.
- Experience of nuclear decommissioning, waste management, storage facilities, ventilation, shielding, containment or radiological systems would be highly advantageous.
