Higher is a boutique recruitment agency. We are excited to be working on a fantastic opportunity for one of our clients.

If you’re an experienced supply chain professional who knows how to lead with empathy, not ego, this could be the role that finally lets you put your mark on a business that genuinely wants to do things right. This isn’t just about placing and chasing orders. It’s about reshaping a function, supporting a team through change, and helping a heritage business hit its net zero targets by 2035.

Here’s the role in a nutshell:

  • You’ll lead a team of four buyers, a capable group who’ve been good at the traditional day-to-day but need nurturing, not pushing, to evolve into a more strategic, commercially minded function. Your job is to guide them through that shift. Build trust. Develop confidence. Lead with consistency and care.
  • You’ll also take the reins on supplier strategy, negotiating with UK-based partners (95% domestic) to reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and secure continuity of supply through robust contingency planning. Some travel will be needed (around once a year per supplier), but you’ll be based on-site at the HQ in Blackpool.

What makes this a standout opportunity:

  • This business is serious about sustainability; they’re aiming for net zero by 2035 and already aligning their supply chain accordingly.
  • This is a stable, successful business with over 65 years of heritage, reinvesting into its people and infrastructure (subsidised canteen, free gym, generous benefits, and a final salary pension scheme which is all but extinct elsewhere).
  • The leadership culture is grounded and supportive. They want someone who’ll make a difference, but in the right way – influencing through capability, not command.

Who you are:

  • You’ve led a supply chain or procurement team before and know how to bring people with you through change.
  • You’re qualified (or part-qualified) through CIPS and well-versed in supplier negotiation, risk planning, and ethical sourcing.
  • You’ve worked with systems and know how to drive efficiency (even if it’s not an out-of-the-box ERP).
  • You care about sustainability and want to play a part in shaping a better supply chain – not just a faster one.

Package & Benefits:

  • Salary: £40-45k
  • Final salary pension (yes, really)
  • Private healthcare after 12 months
  • On-site gym and café
  • 33 days holiday (rising with service)
  • Paid charity days, life insurance, EAP, and more
