About the Trainee Teacher Programme in Berkshire and Hampshire – Wokingham, Camberley and Reading

We offer a fantastic opportunity to train within GLF’s Oxfordshire and Reading schools, supported by our Regional Teacher Training Hub. You’ll benefit from:

  • Placement in GLF schools within the Berkshire and Hampshire region – Wokingham, Camberley, and Reading

You’ll also gain practical, hands‑on experience across a variety of settings, including Early Years, Primary, or Secondary (depending on your chosen phase).

Qualifications Required

  • A UK bachelor's degree (2:2 or above, although some 3rd class degrees may be considered)
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above (plus Science for primary)
  • Right to work and study in the UK, with 3+ years of residency in the UK/EEA (For employment‑based routes)
  • Some relevant school experience and a host school

Funding & Training Route Options

  • Salaried Route (Employment‑Based)
    You are employed full‑time (32.5 hrs/week) on the Unqualified Teacher Pay Scale. The school pays tuition fees for QTS. Option to add PGCE for £500 (trainee‑funded).
  • Fee‑Funded Route
    Unpaid training placement, but eligible for:
    Tuition Fee Loan (up to full cost)
    Maintenance Loan (up to ~£13,000)
    Tax‑free DfEaries (for shortage secondary subjects)
    Training fee costs: £9,535 (QTS + PGCE), £9,035 (QTS only).
  • Part‑Time Route (over two years)
    Year 1: £7,145 | Year 2: £4,762. PGCE is not available on this route.
  • Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship
    Employed by the school. £9,000 fee funded by the employer's levy – assuming eligibility. Leads to QTS (PGCE not included).
