Passionate about oncology? Ready to take your veterinary surgeon career to the next level in 2026? Join our dynamic team at The Ralph in southeast England (Marlow), the UK’s largest independent multidisciplinary specialist referral centre, where we’re offering a unique internship opportunity.
You will join our large team (~260 Ralphers) in a hospital with a busy referral caseload and excellent facilities. We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic veterinary surgeon with a keen interest in veterinary oncology to start a one-year speciality internship. The start date is open for discussion, and the internship may be extended by mutual agreement.
The successful candidate will join our team of three clinicians (two residency-trained and one with a Masters in Clinical Oncology), one oncology intern and two oncology nurses. We are passionate about delivering comprehensive and personalised treatment options to our patients.
As an intern in our Oncology service, you will have the opportunity to:
- Observe and assist the clinicians in diagnosing and treating various forms of cancer in our patients.
- Participate in patient consultations, discuss treatment plans and communicate with pet carers.
- Gain hands‑on experience performing specialised procedures, such as tumour biopsies, chemotherapy administration and electrochemotherapy treatment.
- Assist in monitoring and managing patients during treatment, including evaluating laboratory results, assessing treatment responses and adjusting therapy as needed.
- Collaborate with our oncology nurses to provide optimal patient care and support.
You will be responsible for preparing and presenting new cases during morning rounds. You will be required to prepare and present papers at Journal Club. When ready, you will also have the chance to see cases as the primary clinician, always under the supervision of a senior clinician. Conduct clinical research.
During the internship, you will work in close contact with diplomates in all disciplines, including Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Cardiology, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Soft Tissue Surgery, and also our excellent Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation team. You will receive pastoral support from within your service, our Resident and Vet Intern Support Officers, and others. You will have regular check‑ins and feedback opportunities.
The Ralph workplace focuses on core values, culture, vision and mission. We emphasise kindness, compassion and empathy for all our communities. As an independent hospital, we have the freedom and flexibility to chart our own course.
Marlow is located on the River Thames between Henley and Windsor in southeast England. This is a beautiful area with lovely walks, water‑based activities and more. Our hospital is just off the A404 with easy access from the M4 and M40 motorways and close to London. Marlow is conveniently located only 25 minutes from Heathrow Airport, 45 minutes from Luton Airport and one hour from Gatwick or Stansted Airport.
