We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Highcliff Vets on a full-time basis. This is a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave, lasting 12 months. Highcliff Vets is a long-established, yet progressive practice based in Brantham, near the market town of Manningtree, in the heart of Constable Country. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the historic coastline, we also benefit from excellent links to London. The practice overlooks the estuary, offering a genuinely lovely setting to work in.
You'll be joining a friendly, close-knit team at our Brantham site, working alongside a Clinical Director, Lead Vet, four FTE vets, a Head Nurse, and six FTE Registered Veterinary Nurses. With a roving vet, new team members joining, and continued growth, it's an exciting time to join the practice.
We offer a varied and interesting caseload, supported by a certificate holder in imaging and an experienced orthopaedic surgeon. The practice is well equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound, video endoscopy, multiparameter monitoring, and a Class 4 laser. We also have separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, along with three wards to ensure patients are comfortable and well cared for.
As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high-quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences. You'll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.
Working hours are between 8 am and 7 pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend hours of 8 am to 1 pm. Shifts begin at 7:30 am alongside the vet team to allow for a full handover with Vets Now, with the same handover process in the evening. This is a full-time role of 40 hours per week, typically worked between 7:30 am and 7:30 pm, Monday to Friday, plus 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (8 am-1:30 pm). We can offer flexibility to suit your preferences - whether that's five shorter days (early, mid, or late shifts) or four longer days (4 x 10-hour shifts) with a regular day off, which can be arranged flexibly.
General responsibilities include:
- Nurse clinics - diet, diabetes
- General duties - nail clipping, anal glands
- Occasional float duties
- Assisting with operations
- Inpatient care
- Dental procedures
We're looking for a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and delivering high standards of care. You'll bring:
- Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
- Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
- A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement
- A relaxed, approachable nature with enthusiasm for contributing to a fast-paced team.
This position would suit someone interested in nurse clinics, as we operate a consistently full schedule (often booked nearly a week in advance) with a highly loyal client base.
At IVC Evidensia, we're committed to supporting your ongoing development and wellbeing. When you join us, you'll benefit from:
- A varied and rewarding nursing role within a supportive primary care environment
- Clear career pathways with progression opportunities into Senior Nurse, Referral, or leadership roles as well as clinical supervisors, mentors and certificate holders.
- Ongoing learning and development supported by experienced colleagues and practice teams
- A collaborative, values-led culture focused on care, community, and continuous improvement
