We are seeking a skilled Draughtsman with SolidWorks experience to join the structural metalwork team. The successful candidate will produce high-quality technical drawings and 3D models for a wide range of fabricated steel and metalwork structures, ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks for metalwork fabrication, structural assemblies, and installation layouts.
- Create detailed GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings, including weld symbols, part numbers, and BOMs.
- Interpret and develop designs from engineer sketches, architectural plans, and site measurements.
- Work closely with the fabrication team to ensure drawings are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
- Revise and update drawings based on engineer feedback or site changes.
- Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, building regulations, and internal quality procedures.
- Support the design team with problem-solving and technical input during projects.
- Maintain organised drawing files and revision control.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Draughtsman in the structural or architectural metalwork industry (e.g., staircases, balustrades, platforms, mezzanines, handrails, structural steel).
- Proficient in SolidWorks (Sheet Metal module experience is a strong advantage).
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, folding, welding, and assembly.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
- Good knowledge of steel grades, tolerances, and standard fabrication practices.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as BS EN 1090 (preferred but not essential).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple drawings/projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, CAD Design, or related field (preferred).
- SolidWorks certification (CSWA/CSWP) is an advantage.
- Relevant industry experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
