The High School of Dundee is seeking to appoint, from August 2026, a well-qualified, enthusiastic, and effective Teacher of Physical Education. The successful candidate will join a friendly, committed and high-performing department. Applications are welcomed from newly qualified teachers who are embarking on their Probationary year. The ideal candidate will have achieved a significant level of performance and/or taught/coached netball or rugby to a high level. For the correct candidate, there is an opportunity to coordinate the netball programme.
Curriculum and Timetable
The successful candidate will be expected to teach timetabled Physical Education and Games to all age groups in both the Junior and Senior Years. There will be a requirement to deliver High Performance Sport sessions and/or teach SQA National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher Physical Education. An ability to work well with pupils of all ages and across the full ability range is therefore essential. In addition to teaching timetabled Physical Education and Games classes, all Physical Education staff at the High School of Dundee are expected to commit and fully participate in the School’s co-curricular activities, which includes but is not limited to running co-curricular sessions before/after school and organising/assisting with weekly sports fixtures and events, including Saturdays.
Key Outputs & Responsibilities:
- Teaching Physical Education and Games to pupils from Nursery to Form 6
- Preparation of pupils for internal and external SQA examinations
- Curricular development as directed by the Director of Sport
- Involvement in co-curricular activities, visits and trips linked to the department
- Pupil discipline within the department
- Meeting with parents and colleagues as required
- Contribution to the Physical Education departmental improvement plan
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level, or equivalent, in a related subject and be registered (or eligible for registration) with the GTC Scotland. They should also have experience of teaching Physical Education and Games and should be able to demonstrate initiative as well as a commitment to excellence. Candidates should have drive, enthusiasm and a dynamic approach to the teaching of Physical Education. A positive contribution to curricular development initiatives will be expected. As well as possessing good organisational and administrative skills, excellent interpersonal skills are vital as the post will inevitably involve interaction with colleagues, parents and outside agencies as well as pupils. Candidates must also show evidence of Continuous Professional Development and be literate in Information Computing Technology (ICT).
