Head of Computer Science in Dundee

The High School of Dundee is seeking to appoint for August 2026 a well-qualified, enthusiastic and effective Head of Computing Science to lead our committed and high-performing department.

Role Specification

• Teaching of Computing Science
• Leadership and management of the Computing Science Department in relation to:

• a) learning and teaching, including maintaining and developing the department’s virtual learning platform (Firefly)
• b) assessment and reporting
• c) professional learning and development
• d) line management of the department
• e) liaison with SLT link and HR as required
• f) health and safety
• g) departmental handbook and policies

The Candidate

Candidates should have a degree, or equivalent, in Computing Science and be registered, or eligible for registration with the GTC Scotland. They should have considerable experience of teaching Computing Science and should be able to demonstrate initiative, creativity, and innovation, and a commitment to excellence. The successful applicant should have integrity, drive, enthusiasm and a dynamic approach to the teaching of Computing Science. Strong organisational and administrative skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the willingness to work in a team are vital as the post will inevitably involve interaction with colleagues, parents and outside agencies as well as our pupils. Candidates must also show evidence of Continuing Professional Development and be highly literate in ICT. A good sense of humour is also a useful attribute!

At the High School of Dundee, our unique location in the heart of the city is a major strength, helping our pupils feel connected to the real world, creating fully rounded and grounded young people. The school currently has over 900 pupils, from age 3-18, who divide their time between our main city centre campus and our extensive sports facility, Mayfield.
