Our client is a well-established drainage and wastewater services company operating across the South West, working with local water authorities and major construction clients. They play a key role in maintaining essential infrastructure and operate a large, growing fleet of specialist vehicles. Safety, compliance, and operational excellence are at the heart of everything they do.

They are now looking for an experienced Lead HGV Technician to take ownership of their workshop and keep their specialist fleet running at its best.

About the Role

This is a hands-on technical role with a lead responsibility, you will be the most senior technician in the workshop, working alongside one HGV Fitter and reporting to the Transport Manager. You won't be stuck behind a desk; the expectation is that you are hands-on every day, with the added responsibility of overseeing standards, planning workloads, and keeping the fleet compliant.

The fleet includes specialist tankers, jetting and vacuum vehicles, HGVs, and a pool of vans offering variety and interesting work that will keep your skills sharp.

Day to Day, You Will:

  • Carry out maintenance, servicing, and repair across a mixed fleet of tankers, HGVs, and vans
  • Plan and execute MOT preparation, six-weekly inspections, and pre-planned maintenance schedules
  • Lead reactive repairs to minimise downtime and keep vehicles on the road
  • Oversee and support one HGV Fitter, ensuring consistent quality and workshop standards
  • Maintain accurate compliance records; inspections, defect rectification, parts usage
  • Liaise daily with the Transport Manager and Operations team to prioritise the workload
  • Manage parts ordering, stock control, and workshop housekeeping
  • Coordinate shift coverage to ensure the workshop operates across all required hours
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns when needed, company van provided
  • Assist with LOLER and PAT inspections as required
  • Ensure full compliance with DVSA standards, transport legislation, and SHEQ requirements

What We Are Looking For:

  • NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in HGV maintenance or solid time-served experience
  • IRTEC accreditation is advantageous
  • Proven hands-on experience with tanker vehicles; jetting or vacuum equipment experience is a strong advantage
  • Class 1 (C+E) HGV licence with a clean driving record
  • At least 2 years' experience in an HGV Technician role
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills across HGVs and specialist equipment
  • Good understanding of compliance requirements and record-keeping
  • Able to prioritise effectively in a fast-moving operational environment
  • Right to work in the UK; DBS and drug/alcohol screening required prior to start
