We are seeking an experienced Interim Technical Director to step into a highly visible food manufacturing environment undergoing significant operational and technical transformation. This is not a role for someone looking to maintain the status quo. We are looking for a hands-on, credible technical leader who can quickly assess the landscape, establish priorities, build confidence across the organisation and retailers, and drive standards at pace.

You will provide immediate leadership across a sizeable multi-site technical function whilst supporting the business through a period of change, investment, and capability development. The assignment will play a critical role in maintaining momentum whilst supporting the organisation's long-term technical ambitions, including the evolution into chilled and higher-care manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide immediate leadership and direction across the technical function.
  • Quickly assess organisational capability, priorities, and risk areas.
  • Stabilise and strengthen technical standards across multiple manufacturing operations.
  • Lead food safety, quality, and compliance activities across the business.
  • Support ongoing transformation and investment initiatives.
  • Develop and coach technical leadership teams to improve capability and performance.
  • Build credibility and trust with operational teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Represent Technical with customers, retailers, and external partners.
  • Ensure the business remains audit-ready and customer-focused throughout the assignment.
We are interested in speaking with individuals who bring:
  • Proven Interim Technical Director or senior technical leadership experience within food manufacturing.
  • Strong chilled and/or high-care manufacturing expertise.
  • Extensive retailer-facing experience and customer credibility.
  • A track record of successfully leading businesses through periods of change.
  • The ability to rapidly establish priorities and deliver impact.
  • Excellent influencing skills with the confidence to challenge appropriately.
  • Experience developing teams and strengthening technical capability.
  • Resilience, pragmatism, and a highly visible leadership style.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference within a business that values strong technical leadership. You will be given the autonomy to assess, prioritise, and lead, whilst helping create the conditions for long-term success. The role will suit someone who enjoys pace, complexity, and environments where visible leadership and sound judgement are essential. If you thrive on taking ownership, building momentum, and leaving organisations stronger than you found them, we would welcome a confidential conversation.
