High Life Highland is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Countryside Ranger to join our team in the spectacular landscapes of NW Sutherland. This role replaces a long‑serving ranger who has played a key part in the local community and offers a unique opportunity to work with an award‑winning ranger service.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a high‑quality service across countryside and community sites owned or managed by The Highland Council and partners.
- Support biodiversity, promote responsible outdoor access, and provide engaging environmental education for visitors, schools, and local communities.
- Contribute to citizen science activity, green health projects, and the development of interpretative resources such as guided walks, talks, and online content.
- Regular monitoring of countryside sites and core paths.
- Creating and delivering environmental education sessions and school outdoor learning activities.
- Developing interpretation, events, walks and digital engagement.
- Supporting biodiversity monitoring and citizen science projects.
- Promoting the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
- Liaising with landowners, community groups and partner agencies.
- Supporting conservation volunteering and green health programmes.
- Ensuring safe working practices in line with HLH Health & Safety policy.
- Contributing to fundraising through donations, charges, and small grant applications.
Essential attributes
- Experience as a countryside ranger or in a related community/environmental role.
- Ability to work safely and independently in remote, rugged terrain.
- Strong communication, organisational, and digital media skills.
- Knowledge of wildlife, ecology, and countryside access issues.
- Flexible approach, including occasional weekend work.
- Full driving licence and ability to travel across the area.
