Job Summary
Newcastle Racecourse is seeking casual team members to assist the hardworking and dedicated team responsible for the provision of stabling for horses attending approximately 85 race days throughout the year. Casual team members will be responsible for the preparation racecourse stables under the guidance of the Stable Manger. In the quieter summer months there will also be the opportunity to assist racecourse grounds staff and parklands green keepers on other areas of High Gosforth Park Estate.
Duties
- The main duty in this role is to clean or \”muck out\” stables following each race day, and to prepare the stables with disinfectant and fresh bedding ahead of the next race day. This work is carried out to standards as defined by racing industry guidelines, under the supervision of the Stable Manager.
In addition:
- Assist in ensuring the stable grounds & surrounding area are presented to the highest possible standards.
- Be aware of all Health & Safety Procedures and associated Risk Assessments.
- Carry out any other tasks occasionally requested by the Stable Manager, or wider racecourse management team.
Skills & personal qualities
- The work is outdoors and physical, and so applicants must be physically fit and enjoy the outdoors.
- Knowledge of safe manual handling is key, as moving bales of stables bedding and use of wheelbarrows will be a regular part of the role. You should also be able to use hand tools and other equipment relevant to a stables or agricultural setting. These include, forks, rakes, brooms and wheelbarrows.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours inclusive of regular evenings and weekends.
- Excellent communication skills and a \”can do\” attitude.
- Although you will not be asked to handle horses, it is essential that you have some horse awareness and are comfortable working around them. An interest in racing is an advantage but not essential.

Pay: £9.00-£12.21 per hour
