This position operates as a key member of the Excess team. The D&F Excess portfolio is a relatively new and fast-growing area, working alongside the wider D&F underwriting team. The role requires responsiveness to a high volume of incoming requests and the ability to balance the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. Although the role has a degree of autonomy, it sits within the broader Property D&F team, which includes the Head of Property and six additional underwriting and administrative colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite D&F Excess insurance and reinsurance risks both at the Lloyd's box and in the office.
- Assess new and renewal submissions in line with underwriting guidelines and authority limits, with a focus on US business.
- Use rating models to support pricing, produce initial quotes, and negotiate terms with brokers through to binding.
- Build a comprehensive understanding of the pricing models used by the Excess team.
- Maintain existing broker relationships while developing new ones.
- Progress towards working independently while adhering to company policies and benefiting from a collaborative team environment.
- Contribute to underwriting and portfolio strategy in partnership with management.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities to build long-term, profitable relationships.
- Attend client and broker meetings as required.
- Conduct risk reviews, including rate monitoring and peer review processes.
- Travel as needed for client engagement and marketing activity.
- Prepare both ad hoc and scheduled reports.
- Produce regulatory reports and ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with the claims team to monitor loss trends.
Qualifications & Experience
