I am currently partnered with a leading Syndicate who are seeking a Claims Manager to join their Casualty division. This role will be handling complex Casualty losses from the UK, US and other international jurisdictions on a lead and follow basis, from a primary and excess view (heavy excess on the US side - railroads, transportation, etc).

My client is seeking a Claims professional with technical Casualty experience, who is professional and can influence the team and business. Managerial experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shared responsibility for managing a team of claims professionals, including direct oversight of a portfolio of claims from both technical and people management perspectives.
  • Manage staff performance, workflow priorities, objectives, and development plans.
  • Proactively handle a diverse portfolio of Casualty claims from initial notification through to resolution, including investigation of policy coverage, liability, and quantum, as well as setting and reviewing reserves and overall strategy throughout the claim lifecycle.
  • Ensure adherence to authority limits, reserving philosophy, and claims standards, with appropriate escalation where required.
  • Oversee the effective triage and handling of claims in line with internal Claims Charter, Code of Conduct, and Claims Guidelines, ensuring high standards of client service.
  • Lead and support client presentations and review meetings, coordinating with internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders throughout the claims process, including policyholders, brokers, co-insurers, actuaries, and underwriters.
  • Work constructively with appointed panel lawyers, adjusters, and third-party administrators (TPAs), providing oversight, technical guidance, and financial authority where appropriate.
  • Maintain high standards of file management and record keeping at all times.
  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives, including developing new ideas and research to support underwriting and claims strategies.
  • Enhance the visibility and profile of the Claims team through market engagement, including attendance at industry events, conferences, and external meetings, while supporting business development activities where appropriate.
  • Support senior leadership by providing insights into trends and portfolio performance.
  • Share responsibility for team performance against key internal and market metrics.
  • Implement and oversee large loss procedures and associated management reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices through effective service and performance monitoring, including system reporting and internal file audits.
