Overview
The Stores Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily warehouse and inventory operations to ensure efficient, safe, and accurate handling of materials. As the Stores Supervisor you will lead a team of store operatives, coordinate stock movement, maintain inventory records, and support continuous improvement initiatives to meet operational, quality, and safety targets.
Duties
- Supervise daily stores activities including receiving, put-away, picking, packing, dispatch, and stock rotation
- Ensure all stock transactions are recorded accurately in the inventory management system
- Oversee and enforce correct labelling, storage, and handling procedures
- Coordinate stock takes, cycle counts, and investigations of discrepancies
- Monitor stock levels and highlight shortages or overstock risks
- Lead, motivate, and support a team of store operatives to achieve performance goals
- Plan and allocate workloads, ensuring appropriate staffing for daily operations
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members
- Foster a positive, safety-focused work environment
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
- Conduct regular safety checks, equipment inspections, and risk assessments
- Report hazards, accidents, and near misses promptly
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and workflow within the stores
- Support implementation of lean practices and process enhancements
- Collaborate with procurement, production, and logistics teams to resolve issues
Key Skills/Experience Required
- Proven experience in a warehouse, stores, inventory, or logistics environment
- Previous supervisory or team-leadership experience
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Competency in using inventory management systems and basic IT tools (e.g. MS Office)
- Excellent communication and people-management skills
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
- Knowledge of health & safety practices and warehouse procedures
- Forklift licence (e.g. Counterbalance, Reach)
- Experience with ERP or WMS systems
- SAGE 200 system essential; Kardex and Bar-coding desirable
- Quality Procedures ISO9001:2008
