Overview

HID powers the trusted identities of the world’s people, places, and things, providing secure access control solutions worldwide. The role involves mechanical development of electronic and electro‑mechanical products and sustaining high‑volume PACS RFID access products and Access Control Controllers.

Essential Duties

  • Own the mechanical design and development of physical access readers and controllers.
  • Work with product management to confirm product requirements for allocated projects.
  • Independently manage tasks.
  • Investigate and resolve customer issues related to readers and controllers.
  • Assist with sustaining and VAVE (Value‑Add / Value Engineering) tasks – cost‑down investigations, production efficiencies and feature improvements on current products.
  • Research and implement alternative components and solutions to assist with contract manufacture and supply chain.
  • Participate in high‑level solution discussions covering architecture and technology.
  • Act as subject‑matter expert for mechanical engineering.

Primary Duties

  • Design and develop mechanical housings and accessories – plastic and metal.
  • Work alongside electrical design colleagues to develop mechanical solutions.
  • Collaborate with the wider design team for design‑for‑manufacture.
  • Collaborate with tool makers and contract manufacturers.
  • Perform mechanical engineering test and validation on prototypes.
  • Support the design validation group with final product testing and compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal: Degree level in engineering or related subject and 5–10 years of engineering experience.
  • Other qualifications and experience will be considered.

Essential Skills

  • High proficiency in 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks) and 2D engineering drawings.
  • In‑depth knowledge of plastic injection moulding and tooling (2K, over‑moulding, etc.).
  • Knowledge of tools from 200 kg to 3000 kg.
  • Knowledge of metal component manufacturing (sheet and cast).
  • Experience with a variety of plastic and metal materials.
  • 2–3 years of experience in medium‑to‑high volume mass production.

Other Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of modern injection moulding technologies.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication methods (machining, ultrasonic welding, etc.).
  • Simulation tools (e.g., Moldflow, thermal, stress).
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, RFID, wireless technologies.
  • High‑level communication skills across seniority levels.
  • Effective written and verbal English communication.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications and international standards (ISO, UL).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows).
  • Document control (e.g., engineering changes, Agile PLM).
  • Collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, Wiki).

Work Requirements

  • Compliance with HID Global policies related to quality, security, safety, business continuity and environmental systems.
  • Travel and fieldwork, including international travel; holder of or ability to obtain a valid passport.
  • Legal eligibility to work in the country where hired.
