Test Engineer in Broxburn

Broxburn Full-Time On-site
Hibob Inc.

Since launching the world’s first portable wood-pellet pizza oven in 2012, Ooni has grown into an award-winning, multinational company with a product range loved by pizza makers all over the globe. Our mission has always been to design innovative products that spark joy in our customers, and whilst we’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished so far - we’re only just getting started.

As part of our plans, we’re looking for a Product Test Engineer to join our product development team in Broxburn, West Lothian. Are you driven by a need to know exactly how things work and exactly why they fail? Are you passionate about ensuring products are the best they possibly can be? If so, keep reading!

The Role

This is a hands‑on, technical position where you’ll drive product testing across the entire development lifecycle with a high level of autonomy. From early concept exploration and prototype evaluation, through full verification and production readiness, you’ll be immersed in the detail of how our products are tested, verified, and continuously improved. You will work closely with Design engineers testing products from concept, through development, to production, and beyond. You will elevate our testing capabilities through use of bespoke test fixtures and external test facilities to bring more data‑driven insights to the team.

This is an on‑site role, working 5 days per week from our office in Broxburn, West Lothian.

What you’ll do

  • Full Lifecycle Testing & Verification: Takes hands‑on ownership of product testing across the entire New Product Development lifecycle - from early prototype evaluation to production readiness - pushing hardware to failure to ensure peak performance and reliability.
  • In‑House Instrumentation & Rig Expansion: Drives the design, build, and commissioning of specialised test rigs and precision instrumentation, enabling deeper, repeatable, and automated testing inhouse.
  • Test Method & Standard Development:Identify gaps in current testing capabilities and develop advanced, standardized test methods and SOPs to ensure testing processes keep pace with our 6–12 month product roadmap and feed into department‑wide standards.
  • Data‑Driven Insights & Collaboration: Analyze complex test data to provide actionable feedback to Mechanical and Design Engineers, ensuring rapid product iteration and continuous quality improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Global Standards:Monitor global compliance standards and manage relationships with external test facilities, quality‑checking external test outputs and feeding into departmental testing standards.
  • Data & Simulation Integration: Combines empirical test data with structural, thermal, or mechanical simulation models to deliver actionable insights, aligning virtual predictions with physical real‑world outcomes for the design team.

What you’ll need to succeed

This role is ideal for a technical, detail‑oriented engineer who enjoys solving tough problems, thrives on testing and iteration, and brings a structured, methodical approach to documentation. You will excel in this role if you enjoy working in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment where ideas move quickly and the best idea wins — no matter where it comes from. A genuine passion for tackling challenging engineering problems is essential.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in testing products through the development lifecycle
  • A solid theoretical foundation in core engineering principles.
  • Practical experience testing hardware products and rapid prototypes.
  • Experience with 3D modelling (SolidWorks preferred) and test fixture development.
  • A degree, qualification or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain and present test results.
  • Comfort working in a fast‑paced environment.
  • A team‑focused, optimistic, and solution‑driven mindset.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfort and willingness to handle and prepare all types of food products (including dairy, gluten, meat, etc.) during testing.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience testing consumer products.
  • Experience testing electric motors, gearboxes, or power transmission systems under load.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and other rapid‑prototyping tools.
  • Familiarity with Measurement System Analysis (such as Gauge R&R) to evaluate test rig accuracy and repeatability
  • Confidence working with machine shop tools.
  • Experience with precision measurement instruments.
  • Previous lab experience.
