Howden is a global insurance group with employee ownership at its heart. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no‑limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 24,000 employees spanning over 56 countries. People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like‑minded people driving change at Howden.

This is a highly client‑facing Claims Advocacy role within a Legal Risk and Claims function, focused on improving outcomes for larger Health and Care clients. Acting as a key conduit between clients, broking teams, TPAs and insurers, you will ensure claims are effectively managed, clearly understood, and proactively challenged where needed. The role moves beyond traditional claims handling into a more strategic, advisory position – helping clients interpret trends, navigate complex claims, and strengthen their overall risk position. You will play a visible and integral role in client relationships, supporting both retention and new business activity, while helping shape how claims advocacy is delivered as the team continues to grow.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted Claims Advocate for corporate Health and Care clients, providing ongoing support and insight across their claims portfolio.
  • Lead client review meetings (monthly/quarterly), presenting claims data, identifying trends, and ensuring clear communication of performance and key issues.
  • Act as the central point of coordination between client, broking team, TPA and insurer, ensuring alignment and ownership of claims‑related activity.
  • Proactively advocate on behalf of clients in discussions with insurers, including challenging declinatures, interpreting policy wordings, and influencing outcomes on complex or disputed claims.
  • Support renewal strategy by translating claims performance into clear, commercial narratives for both clients and internal broking teams.
  • Partner with risk management colleagues to identify and implement appropriate risk solutions, using claims data and trends to inform decision‑making.
  • Contribute to new business activity, attending client meetings and supporting bids where claims and risk insight is a key differentiator.
  • Support the onboarding of new clients, ensuring effective use of systems, processes and reporting tools.
  • Contribute to internal insight and portfolio analysis, identifying broader trends and opportunities across the client base.
  • Over time, support or contribute to client training initiatives (e.g. claims defensibility, incident response, or emerging risk topics).

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in claims advocacy or senior, client‑facing claims roles within insurance broking or a comparable environment.
  • Experience dealing with corporate clients, ideally with exposure to Health and Care or similar complex liability‑led sectors (e.g. medical malpractice, care, PI or specialist risks).
  • Confidence handling complex or contentious claims, including the ability to challenge insurers and interpret policy wordings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead client discussions and build trusted relationships.
  • Commercial mindset, with an interest in linking claims insights to practical risk‑management improvements.
  • Proactive and self‑driven approach, with a willingness to broaden knowledge across both claims and risk disciplines.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for client meetings across the UK, with flexibility to attend office locations (including London) as required.

Benefits

A career that you define. Reasonable adjustments: We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations to ensure our positions align well with your needs. This includes software, IT, office setups, and, where possible, flexible hours or hybrid working.
