Role Purpose: The job holder will be allocated a specific Division within the UK&I Specialty Pillar and will act as the dedicated Executive Compliance Business Partner, providing Compliance support and oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop business relationships and work alongside Senior Management and other key stakeholders to support appropriate and effective regulatory understanding and application.
  • Maintain an up-to-date regulatory risk profile for the Division and present it regularly to relevant governance forums.
  • Develop and maintain an annual Compliance Plan aligned with the overarching Compliance Plan.
  • Provide timely visibility and reporting of regulatory matters, concerns and risks to Divisional Senior Management and the assurance committee.
  • Act in an advisory and consultative role for the Division on the interpretation and application of regulatory expectations, without developing or implementing the Division’s systems and controls.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key strategic, commercial and operational initiatives (e.g. restructuring, acquisitions, integrations) and liaise with other Specialty and Central Compliance Functions as necessary.
  • Prepare and submit a Compliance Plan and Strategy for the Division and develop frameworks for incorporating Compliance into strategic and decision-making forums.
  • Provide input into wider Compliance Function plans and ensure coordination of deliverables with other Compliance Function Managers.
  • Manage assigned projects and support the delivery of compliance-related projects.
  • Prepare regular management information for senior management and governance fora regarding division regulatory status.
  • Work closely with first and second line monitoring functions to ensure conduct risk and general compliance metrics are designed, monitored and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare an approach to provide the Head of Compliance with regular updates on progress against key deliverables and tasks defined within the Compliance Plan.
  • Provide technical support for regulatory matters across Consumer Duty, Product Governance, ARs, Introducers, SMCR, Operational Resilience, etc.
  • Support the review of new and existing client portals and contribute to the oversight of conduct risk and general compliance concerns.
  • Interpret and provide expertise on compliance regulations/requirements, advise on regulatory developments and changes, and assist with impact and gap analyses.
  • Provide regular compliance updates to business leads and maintain a positive compliance culture.
  • Participate in regular meetings for the first line of defence and attend business-unit governance meetings with compliance updates.
  • Identify and implement compliance training needs, including induction for new employees.
  • Keep up-to-date with regulatory and legal changes that impact the job role and maintain accurate records.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent issues and escalate emerging risks to the appropriate authorities.
  • Review operating entity policies and procedures from a conduct risk and compliance perspective, alerting management if controls are no longer fit for purpose.
  • Deliver quality reports and deliverables to Divisional Senior Management, Head of Compliance, Deputy Head of Compliance and Assurance Committee.
  • Maintain strong relationships across the business to promote a positive compliance image and support effective delivery of work.
  • Keep abreast of industry, legal, regulatory and governance developments to ensure high standard practice and outputs.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance, operational excellence, and financial reporting standards required by the operating entity.

Policy, Process and Procedures:

  • Regularly review operating entity policies and procedures (e.g. OPMs, supplements) to ensure fit for purpose from a conduct risk and general compliance perspective.
  • Interpret and implement actions according to policies and procedures.
  • Alert senior management and assurance committee to any fit-for-purpose issues with systems and controls.

  • Act as a role model for positive management and leadership behaviours.
  • Actively pursue personal development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practice.
  • Maintain awareness of external, industry, legal and regulatory developments relevant to the operating entity.

Regulatory and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance of self and team, where applicable, with all legal, fiscal and regulatory obligations.
  • Ensure proper authorisation and processes are followed as required by the operating entity or group.
  • Maintain up-to-date performance, HR and T&C records.
  • Operate honestly, professionally and ethically, adhering to the Group Employee Code of Conduct.
  • Complete relevant regulatory training and maintain competency.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Deep knowledge of regulatory expectations regarding conduct risk (including Consumer Duty and Product Governance) and implementation across various business profiles.
  • Extensive experience in the compliance department of a public UK company.
  • Previous experience managing compliance professionals.
  • Track record of building strong relationships with business leaders/senior management.
  • Experience in change programmes.
  • Commercial awareness and application of regulation within the insurance broking industry.
  • Broad and deep knowledge of the FCA handbook, legislation, and insurance products.
