Role Overview

18‑month fixed‑term contract supporting the Howden CAP trading division of Howden Specialty.

Howden CAP provides insurance for M&A transactions, tax and contingent risks, credit risk and surety transactions, as well as real‑estate and emerging insurance lines to address climate‑related risks.

The division has revenue of c. £150m and operates through multiple companies across the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia and Australia.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Howden CAP teams (including their international network) to continually improve financial performance through reporting, analysis and planning.
  • Act as the interface between business units and management accounts to resolve queries.
  • Ensure business reporting functions are set up so each unit can measure key financial performance indicators and meet statutory and regulatory reporting responsibilities.
  • Develop strong working relationships with business leaders to provide tailored finance support.
  • Provide high quality, timely advice, information, analysis, reporting and interpretation to support decision making and performance management.
  • Identify drivers of business performance, trends, opportunities or remedial actions and influence implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Produce finance packs with commentary.
  • Challenge business units on observed weaknesses and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead business units in setting annual budgets and mid‑year forecasts.
  • Prepare financial models for company acquisitions and team lifts.
  • Support improvement of management reporting and analysis.
  • Help maintain and improve financial reporting IT systems.
  • Understand current business processes and assist in developing systems and procedures to ensure sound financial controls across relevant units in Howden UK.
  • Support senior managers to deliver group objectives and maintain effective relationships across Howden Group’s finance function.

Qualifications

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ambitious, self‑motivated and able to react positively to change.
  • Ability to think laterally, solve problems using own initiative and challenge the status quo.
  • Insurance industry experience.
  • Experience supporting senior business managers, including reporting and explaining financial results and information.
  • Experience providing support to one or more business units (commercial analysis, budgets & forecasts, etc.).
  • Project and task management experience.
  • Experience in implementation and improvement of processes and controls.
  • Provision of support to one or more business units in a large or complex organization.
  • One Stream experience.
  • ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualified with approximately 5years of post‑qualification experience.
