Lead Academy Physical Performance Coach

Our Performance Department is committed to the provision of an integrated, structured and pro‑active approach to the scientific management of player development with the aim of improving individual and team performance.
We are looking to recruit a committed, enthusiastic, and highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Academy Physical Performance Coach within the Performance Department.
The successful candidate will have some experience of working with young elite athletes and creating and managing programmes to facilitate long‑term athletic development.
Reporting in the first instance to the Lead Academy PPC, you will be responsible for the delivery and monitoring of the Academy Physical Performance programme (u13s to u17s).
You will liaise closely with all Academy staff ensuring the application of scientific principles to help maximise each player’s potential on and off the pitch.
Working in conjunction with colleagues across the Performance Department you will ensure that players at all levels of the Academy continuum are appropriately supported to optimise their performance in training and competition.
- Strategic Responsibilities
- Assist in the design of a comprehensive physical development programme reflective of individual age/stage development focussed on maximising the potential of all players.
- Ensure that all practice is delivered to the highest professional standard, consistent with the application of current scientific principles and research.
- Undertake on‑going monitoring and review of all programmes, adapting, and updating practice as required.
- Oversee the work of all Academy Physical Performance Applied Work Experience Staff.
- Assist in the creation of a high‑performance environment, always operating to the highest professional standards.
- Operational Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of the Academy physical performance programme, ensuring high quality, consistent professional delivery at all times.
- Working in close collaboration with the Academy coaches to ensure the application of scientific principles in all sessions, adopting a holistic approach to educate academy players in all aspects of performance development.
- Carry out a comprehensive programme of fitness and conditioning profiling and assessment for all Academy players, utilising outcomes to inform training practice and programme requirements.
• Maintain detailed and comprehensive player profiles to include
- Age appropriate medical and physical profiling
- Anthropometric assessments
- Physiological assessment.
- Movement and functioning profiling
- Working in close collaboration with Academy medical team to ensure that appropriate recovery and injury prevention strategies are adopted as required within the performance plan.
- Provide appropriate nutritional strategies and educational advice in support of performance for all Academy players with guidance from the performance nutritionist.
- Contribute to regular player profiling evenings.
- Help create clear lines of communication within the Performance Department.
- Ensure that the Performance Department at Hibernian FC is seen as a benchmark for good practice within the professional game in Scotland.
- To foster strong community links with the wider local football community to ensure that Hibernian FC is justifiably accepted and acknowledged as one of the leading senior clubs in Scotland.
- Other Considerations
- Ability to work irregular and unsociable hours as required, to have an understanding that work may be subject to change with less than 24 hours’ notice on occasions.
- Work will regularly be outside normal working hours, in the evening and on weekends and bank holidays.
- Please note this role is based in the evenings at Hibernian Training Centre, EH35 5NG.
- Hours are from 4.30pm until 9pm Monday / Wednesday / Thursday. Friday evening may involve potential u17s game involvement (Home and Away).
- Driving licence with own transport (desirable).

BSc in Sports and Exercise Science or related discipline.

- First Aid Qualification
- Personal Trainer Level 3 Accreditation
- Experience of working within a professional football club or other sports at Academy level.
- Experience of achieving individual outcomes for improvements in fitness and conditioning.
- Having a range of IT skills to a high level of competency.
- Personal Qualities (Essential)
- A knowledge of football specific software e. g. Team Buildr, GPS Platforms
- Ambitious, hardworking and enthusiastic.
- A genuine team player.
- A willingness to develop communication skills to liaise effectively with players, parents and colleagues within the Academy and wider areas of the football club.
- Approachable, capable of creating and fostering positive relationships.
