Hi-Rel Lids Ltd are a leading manufacturer of precision metal components for the microelectronic industry and are part of Qnnect Group, with manufacturing facilities and sales offices worldwide. We currently have a vacancy within our Etching Department for a Chemical Etching Technician. This position requires the controlled processing of metal components using chemical etching equipment, associated chemicals, and supporting systems to ensure product quality, process repeatability, and compliance with company and customer requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Technical Responsibilities
- Carry out chemical etching processes in accordance with defined process parameters, work instructions, and quality standards.
- Monitor, test, and adjust etchant chemistry to maintain stable and repeatable process conditions.
- Record and interpret process data to identify trends, deviations, or potential quality risks.
- Maintain and manage etchant, stripper, and holding tanks, including solution conditioning, cleaning, and disposal in line with procedures.
- Identify process issues, non-conformances, or equipment faults and escalate or correct where appropriate.
- Support continuous improvement activities aimed at improving yield, consistency, and efficiency within the etching process.
- Quality and Compliance
- Ensure all processed parts meet customer specifications and internal quality requirements prior to release from the department.
- Support the Front-End Supervisor in the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
- Complete all required process records, check sheets, and traceability documentation accurately and on time.
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions when quality issues arise.
- Health, Safety, and Environment
- Ensure all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and used correctly at all times.
- Handle chemicals safely in accordance with COSHH assessments and site procedures.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment.
- Proactively report hazards, near misses, or unsafe conditions to supervision or management.
- Communication and Teamwork
- Work closely with the Front-End Supervisor to ensure effective communication between departments, including Quality, Production, and Engineering.
- Provide clear handovers and process feedback to colleagues to support smooth departmental operation.
- Support and assist colleagues as part of a collaborative team environment focused on delivery and quality.
This full-time position operates Monday through Thursday from 07:30 to 17:30. Overtime will be required on an every-other-week basis during department start-up. The role will initially be offered with a probationary period, with the opportunity for permanent employment subject to suitability and business requirements. Holiday entitlement begins at 20 days per annum (pro rata) plus statutory holidays. Experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment is advantageous; however, full training will be provided for candidates demonstrating the right technical aptitude and attitude.
