Project Accountant – IAS Finance

Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly review packs for portfolio and project managers
- Prepare project analysis & cost reports and propose corrective action(s)
- Prepare consolidated project reports and complete rolling forecasts
- Prepare monthly finance project reviews
- Liaise with project managers, product accountants and industry managers to provide timely and accurate financial data
- Ensure SSRO reporting requirements are met, highlight control weaknesses, and understand the commercial environment
- Liaise closely with the manufacturing function to understand product evolution and support manufacturing integration
- Justify project work in progress and contribute to mitigation of project risk
- Prepare contract estimates for multi‑year budgets and rolling monthly forecasts
- Work closely with the wider IAS finance team to provide analysis and support
- Ensure portfolio of projects meets all audit demands
- Advance the development of IT tools, reporting techniques and skills through Oracle, digital dashboards and BI portals
- Ensure financial integrity and adherence to process (UK GAAP, Chorus2.0) including IFRS15
- Highlight control weaknesses and raise governance issues to the Head of Finance
- Provide financial guidance to the project control team
- Provide key inputs for internal and external audit requirements
- Carry out month‑end processing activities and adhere to the month‑end timetable
- Review cost certificates and continually improve data conception and accounting processes
Qualifications
- Five years of proven experience in a financial/accounting/manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of ERP systems (ideally Oracle), TM1 experience, and PowerBI
- Track record of quickly assimilating and analysing technical financial data and information
- Experience providing financial analysis in a fast‑moving technical environment, making decisions and conducting risk analysis
- Professional qualification or equivalent experience – ICAI, ACCA, CIMA, or similar
- Highly proficient in MSExcel with strong IT skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities across a wide range of stakeholders
Desirable
- Keen team player, energetic self‑starter with a proactive and challenging approach to issues
- Three years manufacturing background
- Two years experience as a Project Accountant
- Experience providing strategic leadership within a large complex environment
- Experience in SSRO reporting and commercial sensitivities within the defence industry
