Location: Walton Summit – Preston

Shifts: Days

Rates (HGV Class 1):

  • Monday to Friday Days – £16.80 per hour (Holiday pay accrued) / £18.53 per hour (Holiday pay included)
  • Saturday & Sunday Nights – £17.50 per hour (Holiday pay accrued) / £19.61 per hour (Holiday pay included)

Job Description:

Drive HGV Class 1 vehicles safely and deliver goods to and from customer sites efficiently.

Duties:

  • Safely operate and drive HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) vehicles in accordance with road traffic laws and company procedures.
  • Complete daily vehicle walk‑around checks and report any defects or maintenance issues.
  • Deliver and collect goods to and from customer sites in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure all loads are secured correctly and transported safely.
  • Complete delivery paperwork, PODs (Proof of Delivery), and electronic records accurately.
  • Adhere to driver hours regulations, Working Time Directive requirements, and tachograph legislation.
  • Plan routes efficiently to maximise productivity and meet delivery schedules.
  • Maintain regular communication with transport planners and traffic offices regarding delivery progress and delays.
  • Conduct trailer swaps, vehicle coupling and uncoupling procedures safely.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at customer premises and company sites.
  • Load and unload vehicles where required, using appropriate equipment and safe handling techniques.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of vehicles and trailers.
  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with clients and members of the public.
  • Report accidents, incidents, delays, and vehicle defects promptly.
  • Follow company policies relating to security, transport compliance, and operational procedures.
  • Assist with depot operations and other transport‑related duties when required.

Requirements:

  • Valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) licence.
  • Valid CPC qualification and Digital Tachograph Card.
  • Good knowledge of local road networks.
  • Physically fit due to manual handling requirements.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude.
